Our Story Coffee from the Indo Pacific region of Sumatra has always had its own special character. Since the Dutch traders of the 18th century brought to the islands of Indonesia coffee starts from the Red Sea region, Sumatra and its quite unique method of semi-washed, or “Gilling Basah”, literally meaning wet-hulled, processing produce coffees of one-of-a-kind character. Every good coffee roaster will utilize the Sumatran coffee as an essential anchor in blends, and offer these coffees, when they are of individual superior quality, as a distinctive single origin. We at Alpen Sierra are proud to source this coffee and include it in our Cafe Femenino family. We give back 5% of our purchases directly to the Cafe Femenino Foundation, which results in the improvement of the lives of families and villages, who are proudly producing these fine coffees.
